Abstract

In a culturally diverse country such as the Philippines, language barriers frequently pose significant challenges to initiating conversations. With approximately 180 dialects and a complex linguistic landscape, many international tourists encounter difficulties in communicating with residents. The "ITU CANO: I'll Teach U Cebuano and FilipiNO" introduces a web-based e-learning platform designed to support non-native speakers in acquiring proficiency in the Filipino and Cebuano languages, which are among the commonly spoken in the nation. The platform features user profiling, instructional content in Filipino and Cebuano, lesson delivery systems, language translation tools, and report generation capabilities. This e-learning platform seeks to overcome language barriers, making it more accessible for individuals from other countries to learn local languages with ease. It is designed to enhance communication among diverse linguistic groups, fostering a more inclusive environment where individuals can effectively express their needs and feel a sense of belonging. The ITU CANO initiative serves as a bridge for intercultural connection, promoting mutual understanding and expanding opportunities for people from various backgrounds. The descriptive method of research was used. Specifically, data was collected from the respondents using a survey questionnaire. Before answering the survey questions, respondents took time to use and explore the website. The information entered into the instrument was drawn from ISO 9126 Standards for Evaluation of Software Quality, particularly metrics on Functionality, Reliability, Usability, and Efficiency. The metrics for Portability and Maintainability were not included as these were hard to measure by both groups of respondents.
